Project Complete... A House Tour

As promised, for todays post I am taking you on a house tour of our latest project. We wrapped up this project on Friday.

The house itself is a 4 bedroom 2 story house situated in a park like setting here in Summerside. When we first visited the house the previous owners were still in residence and at that time we took our initial pictures and dimensions for all the rooms.

Our clients, who were an absolute pleasure to work with, supplied us with magazine pictures of rooms they liked. From there we developed a look which we felt would give them a sophisticated comfortable living space to enjoy with their family and friends. I've had pretty positive feedback from them... they love it!

This is the homes livingroom, it's located just to the left after you enter the front door.

Our colour scheme for the main floor of the house is mainly neutrals mixed with pale blues, creams, white, green and hits of dramatic red.

Let's look at the completed familyroom...

The family room. I absolutely love this area rug! It was the perfect choice to set off the patterns and colours on the main furniture especially good with the chairs. We got really lucky when we found this gem.

Next up the diningroom...

I wish the pictures came out clearer when I uploaded them. The colours seem very washed out unfortunately. The drapes are beautiful silk panels and there is no way this image does them justice. They are shimmering shades of pale cream, green and pale blue with a lovely red stripe.

On to the breakfast nook...

The kitchen ...

Initially the homeowners wanted to redo the kitchen entirely. But decided since the layout was perfect to give the room a facelift instead with new painted cabinets, hardware, lighting, and granite countertops.

On to the guestrooms...

The twin guest room. I love this great little room. We chose to wallpaper the headboard wall in a very pretty leafy print. Originally I chose this paper for another project but that client changed their mind which worked out for us to use this favorite paper on this project.

We accessorized this dresser very minimally. I simply adore this vase! It was hard to part with but suits the double guest rooms colour scheme perfectly.

The master suite. Our inspiration here was to give this room a boutique hotel style feel.

I have to thank Anita very much for all of her hard work helping me pull this house together, along with Ashley who assisted us with ordering all of the furnishings, helping on deliveries and manning the store while we spent hours dressing the house.

I'm off to the CGTA show in Toronto this weekend to buy more lovely things for the store, Moving Designz Home & Cottage. I can't wait to see what the show will have in store for us this year.

Summer Days

I hope you enjoyed the video from yesterday. I just couldn't resist.

For this weeks post I am inspired by the good weather we had today. It's a balmy 27 degrees here on PEI with lots of sunshine.

It's so nice when I meet people while travelling or on the road and tell them I live on PEI, I am always met with a such positive responses. I can't tell you how many times people tell me "Oh yeah PEI, we were there when we were kids and I always wanted to go back" or " I'd love to go there someday it looks so pretty". I've even had a couple of emails from fellow bloggers who've been here and want to come back. And much of my clientelle are people with second homes here.

The summers here are absolutely sensational. The scenery is breaktaking. I never tire of seeing the rolling vibrant green fields, the wildflowers, the sand dunes and the ocean. I thought I'd share of few of the images I've taken of PEI in the last few days and then share with you an update of progress on the project in Summerside.


Summerside has it's own beach on Greens Shore. I drive by it on my way downtown everyday to and from work. It's directly adjacent to the downtown core.



This is our lighthouse called Indian Head and it is located at the mouth of Sumerside Harbour. I took this while walking along The Boardwalk at Greens Shore. The boardwalk is 5km long and wanders along the beach, through downtown, to the harbour, marina and then a little further east. Of note: The Canada Summer Games are being held here and across the island in August.

PEI is known for its potatoes and rows of plantings are a typical sight. This potato field overlooks the Gulf of St Lawrence on North Shore.

This picture is French River an often photographed and picturesque fishing harbour.


Sand dunes at Greenwich National Park. They rise up to 60 feet and the beach is amazing!



Inspired by the sea... This table decoration is put together with items from the store and a piece of driftwood from a local beach.



The family room is pretty much complete and looking very inviting.

An update from last weeks master bedroom photo. The capiz chandelier is now hung and looks simply perfect. What's missing? The upholstered headboard ... it finally came in late last week but it won't be delivered until tomorrow. This is going to be a busy week for us. Our homeowners are due to arrive back on Friday.

And just in case you wondered what the room looked like before. Here is a shot the first time I visited the house. The same angle with the previous owners furnishings. A complete change.

This is one of the guest rooms. Almost done here just some artwork to hang and some accessoring. We're still working on completing the queen guest room and the twin guest room so I decided not to post any pictures today.

And lastly here is a peek at the unfinished diningroom. The table is in our warehouse and the chairs are coming Tuesday. Nothing like cutting close. We've got the rods hung and ready for the silk drapery panels which our seamstress is hemming to proper length.

June just flew by...

I haven't posted for well over a month. I came back in from my gardens since my last posting and have been steadily trying to keep up with my yard work on the weekends. Due to the amount of rainfall we received in June my grass and weeds have been growing like crazy.

I also took a trip to Ottawa to visit some friends during June. What a beautiful city Ottawa and its surrounding areas are.

My work schedule has been very busy. Here is a peek at a project I posted on in early May. We have been working steadily for the last 6 weeks on this project to have it ready for the first week of August. The entire inside of the house has been painted, outfitted with all new window treatments, lighting and furnishings. We are still about 3 weeks away from completion while we wait for more furnishings to arrive.

Here is a picture of the familyroom the first time I visited the house for measurements and to come up with a design plan for my clients. At this time the previous owners were still in residence.

This is what the familyroom looks like today. As you can see the change has been quite dramatic!

We shopped 'til we dropped!

For todays post I thought I would share some images of the new spring interior displays and merchandise at Moving Designz Home & Cottage. Alot of the new decor is from the buying shows in Toronto last month and has been arriving daily. We've been extra busy over the past 2 weeks receiving many of our new items and setting up the store for a fresh spring look.

This is our spring window display. A gorgeous suede cream chair, a mirrored side table and a fabulous chrome floor lamp.

Bright fresh tangerine accessories proving orange is not only a great fall colour to decorate with but when paired with grey dinnerware, reds and yellow is stunningly fresh.

We have plenty of new artwork canvases. Prices range from $15-35 per print.

Our diningroom display features bright yellows and spring greens. What a nice pop of colour!

And we have plenty of faux green green apples to fill up your bowls. On the way are lemons, limes and oranges.

This is one of our livingroom displays. Featuring our new leather club chairs. These small scaled chairs fit great into smaller rooms.

This round glass topped dining table is stunning ( I don't think the picture does it justice) and just perfect when paired with 4 upholstered armchairs.

In the design center we have this fantastic cabinet offering oodles of good looking storage.

This is where I worked today getting a colour palette together for a client. Also new a entire selection of new designer fabrics in beautiful colour combinations.

I love this fabric combination... hope my client does too.
